A Rare Crab is spotted at West Thurrock Power Station.

Only the third to have been spotted in the Uk before.

The first sighting of a rare species of crab took place at West Thurrock Power station many years ago when a Chinese Mitten Crab was caught by the Thames water Authority biologist.

Biologist are amazed

One was reported in the Thames in 1936 and the other in Yorkshire in 1949, but it was thought unlikely that the crab was breeding in the estuary.

Biologists believe it probably arrived in the estuary attached to the hull of a ship sailing from Holland or Germany where they are less rare.
