The future of West Thurrock's 483,000 tonne's of of coal looked uncertain at the time due to the EEC rule's At the time, the problem and contract for moving the coal was a major one in all senses of the word.
Let the bidding begin
Because the contract to shift the coal was worth £280,000 and under the EEC rules the contract had to be advertised in the European Journal, this was to allow any contractor from throughout Europe to be able to bid for the contract.
FACTS
The Coal was transferred to Tilbury Power Station using large Continental barges, the barge was pushed down river to Tilbury Power Station by the Tug, Sea Challenger.
The Barge ( Pulsa ) is a Rhine Barge, and was Charted by sub-contractor Alan C Bennet & Sons
